Meet Shungite
Shungite is a black stone found in the Karelia region of Russia, believed to be over two billion years old. It's one of the few natural materials known to contain fullerenes — a unique carbon structure that has fascinated scientists and traditional healers alike.
For centuries, communities near Lake Onega have used shungite for its believed purifying and protective properties. Peter the Great famously ordered soldiers to carry it. Local people have long placed it in water and worn it close to the body as a talisman of protection.
Today, many parents are drawn to shungite for a simple reason: we live in a world filled with wifi routers, smartphones, and screens — and shungite is traditionally believed to offer a natural buffer against the energetic noise of modern life.

Little Shield Co. Mission
When I became a mum, protecting my little boy took on a whole new meaning.
As a naturopath and kinesiologist, I'd long understood the research surrounding EMFs and had personally worn shungite for years. But when I searched for a beautiful, high-quality shungite necklace designed specifically for babies and toddlers, I couldn't find one.
So I created it myself.
Little Shield Co. was born from a simple belief: our little ones deserve natural protection in a world surrounded by modern technology. Every necklace is thoughtfully handcrafted using genuine shungite and real gemstones, hand-knotted between every bead, and designed to be as beautiful as it is meaningful.

Is shungite proven to block EMF?
While research into shungite and EMFs is still emerging, several studies have found that shungite is an effective radio-absorbing and electromagnetic shielding material.¹,²,³ Shungite's unique carbon structure, including naturally occurring fullerenes, has made it the subject of growing scientific interest for its electromagnetic properties.
Long before modern research, communities in the Karelia region of Russia wore and valued shungite for its believed grounding and protective qualities. At Little Shield Co., we honour both this tradition and the emerging science by creating beautiful necklaces made with genuine shungite and real gemstones.
Our necklaces are not medical devices, and we do not make claims that they prevent, treat, or cure any medical condition.
Is it safe for my child to wear?
Yes, with sensible precautions. Every necklace is individually hand-knotted between each bead — so if the cord were ever to break, only one bead can come loose at a time, significantly reducing the risk of multiple beads being swallowed. We recommend removing the necklace during sleep, bath time, and unsupervised play, and checking the cord and clasp regularly. Always supervise a child wearing jewellery.
How old does my child need to be?
Our necklaces are sized at ~33cm to sit close to the chest on toddlers and young children, and are designed for ages 0-6yrs, worn under direct adult supervision. Every necklace is individually hand-knotted between each bead, so if the cord were ever to break, only one bead can come loose at a time. As with all children's jewellery, please remove during sleep, bath time, and any unsupervised play.
Are the gemstones real?
Yes. Every stone is a genuine gemstone, not glass or synthetic. The irregular, baroque-cut shape means each bead is slightly different and it's what gives each necklace its character.
How do I care for the necklace?
Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth. Avoid prolonged water exposure or soaking. Store flat or hanging when not in use, and check the cord and clasp regularly for any signs of wear.
